On Still Waters
A new painting of white
If you have been listening to Lori 365’ish mini-podcasts, or read any of my articles on “white,” you will know I’ve been doing lots of “colors of white” challenges. Here is a new one. On Still Waters, 20×24 is a painting from trips into the Eastern Sierra. The white granite becomes whatever colors surround it at the time. The warm light and cool shadows are exactly as I remember seeing them on this particular day at this particular time. Notice the warm, white, underbelly of the clouds as they receive reflected light from the rocks below. I also love the idea of cooler colors in the front and warmer ones in the back, especially when atmospheric perspective is not at play.
